What is Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)?

PRF is the most technologically advanced, safest and effective treatment for skin rejuvenation and hair loss available today.

How PRF Treatments Works

The procedure begins with a simple blood draw. The collected blood is then placed in a centrifuge, which spins it at high speed to separate the platelets and fibrin from the blood components. This concentrated mixture, rich in growth factors, is carefully injected into the targeted areas. The growth factors in PRF stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, promoting cell regeneration, collagen production, and tissue repair. This results in smoother, firmer skin and improved hair density without the need for synthetic chemicals.

Benefits of a PRF Treatments Treatment

100% Natural Solution: Utilizes your body’s growth factors.
Enhances Blood Flow: Promotes tissue regeneration for healthier skin and hair.
Boosts Collagen and Elastin: Increases production to improve skin elasticity.
Reduces Signs of Aging: Minimizes fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars and increases hair thickness and density.
-Sustained Improvement: Noticeable benefits that continue to develop over weeks and months.
Minimal Discomfort: Little to no pain with quick recovery.
Non-Surgical Procedure: Avoids invasive surgical methods with no downtime.
Long-Lasting Effects: Results that endure over time.
Low Allergy Risk: Reduced chances of allergic reactions due to natural components.

PRF Treatments vs. Other Treatments

PRF offers advantages over other treatments like PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). PRF treatments release growth factors more slowly, providing longer-lasting benefits than PRP, which offers short-term results. Additionally, PRF contains a higher concentration of growth factors, stem cells, and white blood cells, enhancing its effectiveness in tissue regeneration. Unlike other treatments that may use synthetic substances, PRF is completely natural, reducing the risk of adverse reactions and providing a more holistic approach to skin and hair health.

Before, During, and After

What To Expect Before a PRF Treatments Treatment

Before your PRF treatment, stay hydrated and eat a light meal to prepare for the blood draw. Your provider will review your medical history and discuss your treatment goals to ensure PRF is right for you. You should avoid taking blood thinners, vitamin E, vitamin A, garlic, ginkgo biloba, flax oil, cod liver oil, and essential fatty acids for at least 3 days to 1 week before treatment. You should also avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements, spicy foods, and cigarettes for 3 days before and after treatment. If you have a history of cold sores, you may need to be pretreated with medication.

What To Expect During a PRF Treatments Treatment

A small amount of blood will be drawn from your arm. This blood is then processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets and growth factors. Once ready, the PRF solution is injected into the targeted areas using fine needles. The process takes about 30 minutes and is relatively painless, with most patients experiencing only mild discomfort. Your provider will ensure your comfort throughout the procedure and provide aftercare instructions to optimize your results.

What To Expect After a PRF Treatments Treatment

After your PRF treatment, you may experience mild side effects such as mild swelling, bruising, redness, or mild irritation, which should subside within a few hours to days. The treated area might feel firm and appear uneven for up to 10 days. Avoid touching, pressing, rubbing, or manipulating the area for at least 8 hours post-treatment, and refrain from using blood thinners and NSAIDs for 2 weeks. Results will become visible after 1–2 months as your body’s collagen builds up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both PRF and PRP are platelet concentrates derived from the patient’s own blood, making it a pure, natural form of growth factors for exceptional results in treating fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, skin tone, skin texture and even hair loss.

PRF is the newest generation of platelet-based products that target tissue damage. During the centrifugal process, the blood is separated into layers that are not as distinct as with PRP, so growth factors, stem cells, and while cells are also collected along with the platelets making PRF more advanced and effective.

PRF offers longer-lasting collagen stimulation benefits, as it releases more growth factors over time. PRP only provides benefits for a day, while PRF continues to work for up to a week because it is more stable.

PRF is effective in stimulating hair restoration, particularly with AGA hair loss (male pattern baldness). The earlier PRF treatment is started, the more effective it is, and the best results are seen in guests that have started experiencing hair loss in the last five years.

Guests are recommended to schedule 6 appointments, 4-6 weeks apart, and the results last for up to six months. Top-up treatments should be booked every 4 months to maintain results.

PRF treatments are often utilized/recommended in conjunction with Neograft patients at Des Moines Plastic Surgery to optimize their results.

Because the treatments use a patient’s own tissues, PRF injections are safe and can be administered alone or used in conjunction with other procedures. The risk of an allergic reaction is much lower than with other injectable medications. The procedure involves a blood draw, so you should make sure you are hydrated and have eaten beforehand to prevent feeling lightheaded. After the procedure, you may experience some soreness and bruising at the injection site.

PRF injections are intended to promote healing or growth, therefore you may not notice an immediate difference after receiving the injections. However, in several weeks or months, the area may begin healing faster or growing more hair than you would have expected if you hadn’t received PRF injections. Results can last as long as 18 months.

PRF injections start at $500 for single-session vial treatments. Depending on your treatment goals, your provider will recommend a series of treatments to optimize best-results.

PRF therapy can be added-on to treatments including microneedling and laser treatments such as MOXI & HALO to optimize recovery. Your aesthetic provider will make best recommendations for this type of treatment based on your unique scenario.

We offer complimentary consultations with our aesthetic injector providers so you can learn more about the treatments you’re interested in and provider can assess and make best recommendations for you.

Before you begin any treatment process, we will review all your questions and concerns to ensure PRF treatments, whether for facial rejuvenation and/or hair loss, is a good fit for you.
